KAITLYN TAMONDONG LEADS CSM PAST RIVAL SKYLINE, 70-60, IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Kaitlyn Tamondong had 18 points -- including the go-ahead 3-pointer during a 10-point third quarter run -- as College of San Mateo took care of County rival Skyline College, 70-60, in their Coast Conference North women's basketball showdown Saturday.
It was the third time in the period that a Tamondong field goal had given the Lady Bulldogs the lead, which had traded hands ten times during the game. CSM led, 48-43, after that game determining run but the Lady Trojans closed to 48-46 at the third quarter break.
Guard Megan Jajeh took over in the final period with nine of her 17 points, including a pair of three's, as CSM pulled away for the final 10-point margin. She also had four assists.
Tamondong had an excellent overall game, adding six rebounds, four assists and two steals to her 18 points.
Uhna Nauer had 11 rebounds and conference leader Kyana Wiley had nine to pace the Bulldogs up front. Wiley also had three steals and a block. Off the bench, Ziyah Starks added 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. Alyssa Albin was the fourth San Matean in double figures with ten points.
--The win left San Mateo (7-15, 3-4 Coast North) in contention for a third-place finish behind state powers City College of San Francisco and Chabot in the tough Coast division. The all-freshmen Bulldogs are currently tied for fourth place, a game behind San Jose -- their foe in a Valentine's Day home finale. The only other remaining home contest is with No. 6 state CCSF (91-3, 6-0) on Feb. 7. CSM visits last place Ohlone (0-18, 0-7) on Wednesday (Jan. 31) at 5 p.m. in Fremont and goes to co-fourth Las Positas (5-15, 3-4) in Livermore for a crucial on Friday. Sixth place Skyline is 9-14 and 2-5.
