Mt. San Antonio, Butte, College of San Mateo and San Jose City hold down top four spots in softball poll
SAN BERNARDINO - The calendar has finally turned to spring, which means the race to the CCCAA Softball Championships is heating up with the weather.
And while the temperatures may still be fluctuating, one thing has remained consistent in the 2022 softball season – Mt. San Antonio College is still the team the rest of the state is chasing.
The Mounties remain at the top of the mountain in the latest California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association poll. Mt. SAC received nine of the 11 first place votes in polling of coaches from the south region in this week’s poll, giving them the top spot.
In the north, where eight votes were cast, there was more parity at the top. State No. 2 Butte received three first place votes, as did state No. 4 San Jose. No. 3 San Mateo got the other two first place votes from northern voters, but edged out San Jose based on vote totals.
Santa Ana remained No. 5 in the state (and No. 2 in Southern California) on the strength of five second place votes, with Palomar (one first place vote) jumping up one spot to No. 6.
Sierra and Long Beach also moved up one spot each to No. 7 and No. 8, respectively, as Cypress dropped three spots to No. 9 in the state poll. Cosumnes River rounded out the top 10.
