CSM SOFTBALL TOPS FRESNO, 5-3; HOSTS SIERRA MONDAY

SAN MATEO – Although Aubrie Businger started things off with an impressive leadoff home run that hit the left field foul pole, College of San Mateo's softball team had to stage a later comeback to holdoff visiting Fresno City College, 5-3, Sunday afternoon.

Fresno rallied in the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. CSM responded in the bottom of the fifth. Kaylyn Sterling doubled home pinch runner Juliana Sansano and Brittany Prock singled home Riley Donovan to give San Mateo a 4-3 lead. Sterling also had a double in the first inning, scoring starting pitcher Kaitlyn Grech.

Prock (3-1) was the winning pitcher, in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out three over 3 2/3 innings. Grech, Donovan, Sterling, and Avery Revera each had two of CSM's 12 hits.

--CSM (7-1) remained unbeaten against Northern California teams and will host Sierra (6-1) on Monday at noon in an added game. Sierra's lone loss was to San Mateo. Fresno dropped to 1-6.
