JC Athletic Bureau Release (PDF)
SAN MATEO – Undefeated and top ranked Riverside City College (10-0) heads into the California Community College Athletic Association football playoffs as the only National Division team to complete regular season play with a perfect record. The Tigers took all 11 first place votes this week in the JC Athletic Bureau’s final regular season poll of California Community College Football Coaches Association members.
State regional 4-team playoffs will be conducted Nov. 26 and Dec. 3. The north winner will host the Dec. 10 championship game.
State No. 3 College of San Mateo (9-1) defeated reigning state champion City College of San Francisco, 31-13, in the Bay 6 League title game on Saturday (Nov. 12), eliminating the now No. 11 ranked Rams (6-4) from the 2022 playoffs. The Bulldogs, with the expected No. 1 NorCal seed (according to coaches and social media posts), plan to host likely fourth seed and 19th ranked Modesto JC (5-5) of the Valley League in a Nov. 26 first round playoff. State No. 5 Laney College (8-2), Bay 6 co-champ (but loser to CSM) is the probable No. 2 seed, to host eighth ranked American River (7-3), the NorCal League winner.
In Southern California, it’s expected that 10th ranked Ventura College (7-3) will be the Northern League playoff representative and face Riverside at the San Bernardino Valley College stadium. Ventura shared the Southern League title with Allan Hancock and Canyons at 3-2 but holds wins over both. Southern League champ (and fourth ranked) Fullerton College (9-1) expects to host at-large qualifier No. 2 ranked Mt. San Antonio (9-1) at Orange Coast College’s stadium.
The CCCAA plans to announce official pairings for playoffs and Nov. 26 bowl games on Sunday, Nov. 20.
While all National (state championship) Division league races are finished, there will be six American Division games in Northern California on Nov. 19, along with the Contra Costa at College of the Siskiyous make-up of a game postponed by the Mills wildfire.
Title deciders: College of the Redwoods and Feather River pit 4-0 Pacific 7 League marks in Quincy at 1 p.m. Merced takes a 5-0 mark to 4-1 Monterey Peninsula for the Golden Coast crown at 6 p.m. Regional American Division playoff finals are planned for Nov. 26.
