NATYCAA Standings: State Association Daktronics Cup
SACRAMENTO – Seven top-three finishes at state championships, including four 3C2A titles, proved to be the fuel for Mt. San Antonio College which captured the 2022-23 NATYCAA Cup all-sports championship among California Community College Athletics Association schools, it was announced on Tuesday. The Mounties also added top honors in the Daktronics Cup State Association Divisions competition between the 3C2A and the Northwest Athletic Conference.
Mt. San Antonio College was honored with its awards by NATYCAA (National Alliance of Two Year Collegiate Athletic Administrators) during the NACDA Convention in Orlando, Florida, this week.
Colleges are awarded points based on their teams’ final positions in post-conference competition with state championships worth the most points (20). Each college’s top-five men’s and top-five women’s team results count toward the school’s overall point total. Complete standings, scoring criteria, and history of the NATYCAA Cup is available on the 3C2A website, http://cccaasports.org/NATYCAA/index. This year's complete CCCAA results with both the overall and sport-by-sport finishes are also available above.
Mt. San Antonio held off Northern California powerhouse Sierra College (166.0) for top honors with Orange Coast (154.5), Riverside City (138.5) and American River (133.0) rounding out the top five finishers. Saddleback (121.0), Bakersfield (120.5), San Joaquin Delta (117.5), West Valley (107.0), and Fullerton (106.5) and San Diego Mesa (106.5) completed the top 10 scores. A dozen schools scored at least 100 points in this year’s race, a group that also included Ventura (105.5).
“It’s exciting to award Mt. San Antonio College with this year’s NATYCAA Cup championship,” said Jennifer Cardone, 3C2A Executive Director. “The breadth of their championship consistency is tremendous. It’s also gratifying to see the number of schools that made it a great chase for the title this year. The 3C2A has great balance throughout the state and it’s evident by this year’s standings.”
Mt. San Antonio’s score was highlighted by a quartet of state titles in men’s cross country (20 pts), women’s cross country (20), men’s track and field (20) and women’s track and field (20). The Mounties added runner-up finishes in men’s soccer (19 pts) and men’s wrestling (19) and a third-place showing in men’s swimming and diving (18). Ties for fifth in softball (15.5 pts), women’s soccer (14.5) and women’s basketball (14.5) completed their countable scores.
Scores for football, men’s water polo, women’s water polo, men’s golf and women’s swimming and diving were not included since they were not among the Mounties’ top five for either the men’s or women’s tallies.
Sierra, which finished third last year, made a run for this year’s title with five strong showings on the men’s side thanks to a state title in swimming and diving (20 pts), three top-three finishes in water polo (18), golf (18) and baseball (18), and an eighth-place showing in wrestling (13).
The Wolverines’ women’s teams showed great consistency, tallying points in an association-best nine sports, including a runner-up placing in swimming and diving (19 pts), and ties for fifth in water polo (15.5), softball (15.5), soccer (14.5), and basketball (14.5).
A total of five 3C2A women’s programs and three men’s programs scored in more than five sports. A total of 110 schools competed in the 3C2A this past year.
The 3C2A dominated the Daktronics State Association’s top 10 with seven schools among the top 10. Mt. San Antonio led the way and was followed by Sierra (2nd), Orange Coast (3rd), Riverside City (5th), American River (6th), Saddleback (8th) and Bakersfield (9th).
