PASADENA - For the third straight game and sixth time in the last eight matches, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team was shut out by an opponent. On Friday, it was state No. 14-ranked and South Coast Conference first-place Chaffey that handed the Lancers a 4-0 defeat at Robinson Stadium.
Playing without an injured top center-back Alexxis Molinar for the past few games, PCC is 1-10-3 overall and 0-5 in SCC North play. Team top-scoring forward Katy Coats played in the backfield in a 2-0 loss to Los Angeles Harbor on October 23, but moved back to the offensive side against Chaffey. The Panthers though relentlessly dominated with 31 shots and aggressive offensive play resulted in PCC fouling twice in the goalie box to create two penalty kick goals for the Panthers.
Chaffey (11-2-2, 5-0 in SCC North) was led by Ivy Vollaire, who scored the 3-goal hat trick.
Coats has been a part of all 12 Lancers goals this season (10 goals and two assists).
Coats, Amanda Avila, Yulissa Macias and goalie Deanna Campos played well in the Chaffey loss and kept PCC from losing by a larger margin. Campos made eight saves, including some difficult stops and a few tipaways. The short-handed Lancers lost Erica Perez to an injury in the first half after a hard collision with Chaffey's Danielle Perez and later Avila had to leave the game due to injury.
PCC hopes to get back on the scoreboard and win board Tuesday, Oct. 30 when it visits East Los Angeles College. Game time is 2 p.m.
