CCSF and Sacramento CC Win NorCal Community
College Track Titles
>SALINAS...Tania Woods won both sprints and ran
a leg on the winning 4 x 100 meter relay team (46.59) as City College of
San Francisco won the Northern California Community College women's track
and field championship with 106 points -- ahead of Fresno City College (67)
and College of the Sequoias (60).
Woods won the 100 meters (11.77) and 200 (23.78) and earlier set the
meet's only record with a 23.62 in the 200 during the trials at Fresno on
May 5.
CCSF controlled the sprint track with victories by Simone Brooks the
100 meters hurdles (15.08) and Anndria Norris in the 400 meters (57.48),
plus the triple jump, Andrea Kincaid (36-11 ?).
Also impressive in the field was College of San Mateo's Cami Carroll,
who scored 22 individual points with victories in the discus throw (150-10)
and hammer throw (164-9) and a seventh in the shot put (36-10 <=) - the
latter won by Shickola Ricks of Maerced (41-1).

The men's championship battle was much closer:
Sacramento City College scored 74 points to defeat San Joaquin Delta of
Stockton by a half point, with Chabot of ayward third with 71. Hayward third
with 71 points.
Sacramento had the initial lead in the championships following Logan
Moore's decathlon victory last month. At Salinas, the Panthers got individual
wins from John Newell in the shot put (53-1 <=) and DaShawn Clark in the
triple jump (47-2 ?). For Delta, Ben Clark won both hurdles races and Bryan
Harris took the hammer throw (170-10).
Santa Rosa's Jon Willison took won the high jump at 7-2 over Kurtiss
Dilley of Sacramento (7-0 ).
Luiz Mello of Santa Rosa was a double sprint winner (10.74 and 21.29)
into headwinds, while Lorenzo Parham of Merritt won the 400 meters in 47.11
and anchored the winning 4 x 400 meter relay team (3:14.62) in 46.8.
-- Top four in lane events (through 800 meters and both relays) and
top six in all other events qualify for 2001 Hyundai California Community
College Championships at American River College in Sacramento, May 18-19.
In addition, the better fifth place time in each lane race (from the north
or south championships) will qualify.
