BIASELLA DOES DOUBLE DUTY TO CLAIM
SINGLES, DOUBLES TITLES
CARLSBAD - It was quite a successful weekend for the College of the
Desert men's tennis team. Not only did the team secure its fifth straight
dual team title on Thursday, but the Roadrunners had three of the final
four singles players and three of the final four doubles teams at California
Community College Men's Tennis State Championships this weekend at La
Costa Resort & Spa.
The end result was a pair of state titles for one member of the Roadnnmers'
squad. Adriano Biasella stormed through to take the singles title on
Saturday morning, then came back with doubles partner R/chard Dasek
in the afternoon to claim the doubles crown as well.
Biasella breezed through the singles tournament, especially in Saturday's
semifinals and final. In his two wins on Saturday, Biasella won a total
of 24 games while losing only two. He defeated Ronald Paz of Canada
College in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-0, then defeated his COD teammate,
Kunioshi Minato, in the final, 6-0, 6-0. Minute had defeated COD teammate
Richard Dasek
6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in the other semifinal.
In doubles, Biasella and Dasek had a little bit tougher a time. The
pair faced teammates in both the semifinals and the final on Saturday.
First up, Biasella and Dasek got by Daliher Ptak and Daniel Briseno
by scores of 6-3, 7-6 (1). In the final, the pair was taken to three
sets by their teammates Minute and Rye Kashiwabara before pulling out
a 6-7 (1), 6-2, 6-3 victory. Minato and Kashiwabara were in the final
after defeating Grossmont's Cyrillc Kurz and Fernundo Rodriugez, 6-4,
6-4 in the other semifinal.
This marks the third straight year that a player from College of the
Desert has claimed state titles in both singles and doubles.
