PASADENA, Calif. - East Los Angeles did last week what hadn't been done in 51 home games for Mt. San Antonio and that was beat the Mounties on their home floor. Their reward? Snagging the top-ranked spot in the CCCSIA Women's Basketball poll this week that belonged to Mt. SAC until the Huskies won 71-59 on Friday.
East L.A. entered last week ranked third but jumped over previous No. 2 Sierra, which fell to fourth this week, to reclaim top billing. The Huskies received 13 of 17 first-place vote from the sports information director voters with Sierra picking up three and Mt. SAC taking the last one.
The Mounties, now tied atop the South Coast Conference North standings with the Huskies at 5-1, dropped only one spot to No. 2 with Palomar, riding a 13-game winning streak, climbing a spot to No. 3. Sierra, College of the Siskiyous, Diablo Valley, City College of San Francisco, Ventura and Mt. San Jacinto round out the top 10.
The remaining teams were all in last week's poll except for Chabot (19-7), which moved into the 19th spot and replaced American River, who was 20th but slipped out of this week's poll.
The top 13 teams and 14 of the top 15 each have at least 20 wins.
