GLENDORA, Calif. - The California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association is pleased to announce its Week #1 State Player and Pitcher of the Week. Oxnard College freshman catcher Destiny Murillo and Pasadena City College freshman pitcher Britney Lopez earned the honors
Pitcher of the Week – Britney Lopez – Pasadena City College
During the first week of competition Lopez helped get the Lancers off to a hot start, by throwing the program’s first ever 7-inning no-hitter in the last 18 years in a 6-0 win at Saddleback College. Lopez would finish with five punch-outs in the win against just a pair of walks. She followed that up by throwing a shutout inning against Ventura College a few days later. Lopez attended Monrovia High School.
Player of the Week –Destiny Murillo – Oxnard College
Freshman catcher Destiny Murillo batted .545 (12 for 22) with two doubles, two triples and two home runs. Murillo drove in 15 RBIs and scored nine runs. She also drew three walks and stole a base. Murillo started off the season with a 2-for-2 effort versus Golden West, before accounting for nearly half of the runs her team scored in a doubleheader with West Los Angeles College. In those two games, she was 6-for-6. Murillo prepped at Pacifica High School in Oxnard.
