Ventura's men and Santa Barbara's women both defended their Western State Conference titles with wins at the 2016 Western State Conference Championship.  Ventura has dominated the men's division, since ending Cuesta ten-year title run in 2002, with a thirteen titles over the past 14 years, including the past five.  Long time Head Coach Larry Barratte and Co-Coach Mary Giles were named the 2016 Western State Conference Men's Swim & Dive Coaches of the Year.   The Pirates depth was the key to their success this season as they held off LA Valley on the final day.   College of the Canyons finished 3rd in the men's division, but also boasted 2016 WSC Swimmer of the Year Griffin S. Scott, who won two events and was the runner-up in another.  Santa Barbara City's Chuckie Roth deservedly took home 2016 Western State Conference Women's Coach of the Year honors as his Vaqueros led the meet from start to finish.  The Vaqueros Addison Seale shared WSC Swimmer of the Year honors with Allan Hancock's Alexandria Kwong.  Both swimmers won three individual events, however Kwong added a new conference record in the 200 backstroke (2:12.80).
